Learning the Craft. Building Confidence.
A protected, supportive environment for new soccer referees in Nebraska.
No player steps onto the pitch for their first match ready to go pro — and referees are no different. The Training League is a joint initiative between NRDP and Nebraska State Soccer designed to give newly certified Grassroots referees the exact tools, mentorship, and sideline protection they need to gain experience and grow.
WHAT IS THE TRAINING LEAGUE?
Refs Need Practice, Too
The jump from the classroom to a live match can feel overwhelming. Historically, the biggest hurdle facing soccer officiating hasn’t been getting badged — it’s been retaining new refs after their first few games.
Through coordinated efforts across our state soccer ecosystem, the Training League ensures your very first games take place with structured support behind you.
The Training League offers a dedicated, low-stress development environment:
- Tailored Matches: New referees work entry-level, recreational age groups (9U–12U) where they can focus on basic mechanics, whistle control, and positioning.
- On-Field Mentors: New officials are paired with veteran Mentors and Trainers who provide constructive, post-game feedback.
- Zero-Tolerance Protection: Coaches, players, and spectators operate under a strict policy: no dissent or engagement with the referee. Period.
HOW IT WORKS!
Your Path from Certification to Confidence
[ Step 1: Get Certified ] ➔ [ Step 2: Join Training League ] ➔ [ Step 3: Graduate & Advance ]
- Get Licensed with NRDP: Complete your US Soccer Grassroots certification through the NRDP Learning Center.
- Self-Assign Beginner Games: Access the Training League ecosystem via AssignR to start picking up assigned 9U–12U matches.
- Work with Mentors: Receive real-time guidance and feedback from designated NRDP Trainers on the field.
- Graduate When Ready: Once you’ve logged key games and built a strong foundation, you’ll graduate to higher-level competitive matches and tournaments.
Participating in the Training League is not strictly required to referee in Nebraska, but it is highly recommended.
